Wenceslao Leyva Gonzalez [Spanish: González] (28 September 1903 – 27 December 2016) was a Mexican supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of death, he was the second-oldest (known) living man, behind Israel Kristal. He is also the second-oldest (documented) man who ever died in Mexico, behind Mauro Ambriz Tapia (1897–2011).
Biography[]
Leyva Gonzalez was born in Tamazula, Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico, on 28 September 1903. His parents were Gaudencio Leyva and Tomasa Gonzalez. He had at least one sister, Guadalupe Leyva (c.1907–?). On 5 June 1924, he married Alejandra Evans Martinez (1908–1971). He had 12 children, three of whom died as infants. His wife died in 1971.
By October 2015, he had eight living children: Jose Rosario (aged 90), Antonio (aged 83), Matilde (aged 80), Pedro (aged 74), Ofelia (aged 71), Gaudencio (aged 69), Octavio (aged 67) and Israel (aged 65). He had at least one more child who died before October 2015, Isidra Leyva Evans. According to his son, Leyva Gonzalez enjoyed tambora music. At the time of death, he had 71 grandchildren, 190 great-grandchildren, 95 great-great-grandchildren, and six great-great-great-grandchildren.
Leyva Gonzalez died of natural causes in Tamazula, Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico, on 27 December 2016, at the age of 113 years, 90 days. He may have been the oldest known person to ever die in Mexico at the time of his death.
