William Marshall Chandler


William "Wills" Marshall Chandler (18 December 1894 - 24 April 2001) was an American centenarian, who was one of the oldest man from Talladega County, Alabama. and at time of his death. the oldest living man in Alabama

He claimed to have been born in 1894. (though other sources claim a birthdate of 1893 or 1897).

Biography[]

William was born in Chilton County, Alabama, USA on 18 December 1894, as one of 14 children of Joseph Jessie Chandler and Martha Headley. He grew up in Mineral Springs, Alabama, a rural farming community outside of Jemison, Alabama.

His father was a peach farmer and at young age he began working in the family farm

He was a member of Hollins Baptist Church for many years and was known as the "Bee Man". He retired from Avondale Mills after some 50 years of service. He died in Sylacauga, Talladega County, Alabama, USA on 24 April 2001 at the age of 106 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Chandler; a daughter, Lena Ruth Collins Thornburg; and a son, Henry (Sonny) Chandler. At the time of his death he had three daughters, Eunice Williams, Louise Jackson and Dovie Johnson of Sylacauga; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
