William Harrison "Mr. Will" McDaniel (20 May 1878 – 20 December 1988) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). He was the oldest man ever from Mississippi until his age was surpassed by James Zackry.
Biography[]
William McDaniel was born in Panola, Texas, United States on 20 May 1878. His parents were Thomas Jefferson McDaniel (1840–1929) and Almedia Jane Walker (1854–1925). He had six siblings.
He married Sarah "Sally" Barnett around 1904. The couple had four daughters: Paula Johnson (1905–1982), Alma Gregory (1907–1995), Flonnie Jordan (1910–1969), and Beryl McDaniel (1913–1991). Sally died in 1916.
He married Lela White in Smith County, Mississippi, USA on 27 April 1917. The couple had six children: John McDaniel (1918–1969), Mary Hough (1919–2006), Winnie Rohr (1921–2009), Wille McDaniel (1924–1997), Mildred L. Williams (1926–2017) and Virginia Smith (1932–1989). Lela died in 1952.
In his late 90's, he moved into the Bay Springs Nursing Home.
William McDaniel died in Bay Springs, Mississippi, United States on 20 December 1988 at the age of 110 years, 214 days.
His age was verified by Daniel Gonik, Waclaw Jan Kroczek and Oliver Trim, and (posthumously) validated by the GRG in 2024 and given the retroactive date of 2016.
