Xhemile Susuri (née Kaloshi; 1 April 1912 – 27 February 2022) was an Albanian-born Kosovoan centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Kosovo at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Xhemile Kaloshi was born in Bela, Kukes, Albania on 1 April 1912 (claimed 1910). Her parents were Selman Kaloshi and Mere Kaloshi. She had two more sisters and two brothers, of whom she was the oldest. Later she moved to Zhur near Prizren, Kosovo where she married Rasim Susuri (1895–1984) in 1932. Her first child was born in 1937, it was a son who died as a baby, then her eldest daughter was born, and then the other eight children. During her life, she did various agricultural jobs, mowed grass, brought wood from the forest and raised cattle. She claimed that constant physical work, including the month of Ramadan, made her healthy and long-lived.
Her husband Rasim Susuri died in 1984 at the age of 89. Together with him, she had ten children, who later gave her over 100 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At the age of 109, she had five living children, of whom the eldest daughter was 80 years old, while her five other children died before her. She was very healthy and could walk until her death.
She became the oldest known living person in Kosovo, following the death of 109-year-old Sherife Ninaj on 8 March 2020.
Kaloshi Susuri died of natural causes in her home in the village of Zhur, Prizren Municipality, Kosovo on 27 February 2022 at the age of 109 years, 332 days. Following her death, then 108-year-old Xhevahire Mustafa became the oldest known living person in Kosovo.
