Xhezide Aliu (5 August 1915 – 20 September 2024) was a Kosovan centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Kosovo at the time of her death.

Biography[]

Xhezide Aliu was born in the village Stancic, municipality of Gjilan, Kingdom of Serbia, (present-day Gjilan District, Kosovo) on 5 August 1915 (claimed 1913). She got married at the age of 15. Together with her husband, she had five children. Her husband died when she was 49 years old.

At the age of 102, she was visiting members of her family in Kumanovo, a town in northeastern Macedonia, where she was visited by a team from Skopje Television 21. Then she had over 60 descendants, including five children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The secret of her longevity was to maintain herself by constant work, modest and healthy food, and that she mostly ate corn bread, tomatoes, onions, cabbage and other things, and only drank sheep's milk, Xhezide said in her first interview for media in April 2018.

At the age of 107 she was still in good health, her memory worked perfectly, she had no any health problems and she still used her mobile phone.

On 15 February 2024, following the death of 108-year-old Bahtije Idrizi, she became the oldest known living person in Kosovo.

Xhezide Aliu died in Ferizaj, Ferizaj District, Kosovo on 20 September 2024 at the age of 109 years, 46 days. Following her death, then 107-year-old Taibe Dushica became the oldest known living person in Kosovo.
