Longevity claimant |
Yaso Kobayashi [Japanese: 小林やす] (2 March 1846? – 29 May 1964) was a Japanese longevity claimant. She was considered by the government of Japan to be the second-oldest Japanese person ever (after Shigechiyo Izumi), and the oldest Japanese woman ever.
Biography
Yaso Kobayashi claimed to have been born in Japan on 2 March 1846. In January 1964, she became paralysed because of a stroke.
Yaso Kobayashi died of pneumonia in Otsuki, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan on 29 May 1964, at the claimed age of 118 years, 88 days.
However, modern scientific authorities have not recognized her age as validated. It's due in part to her alleged year of birth far predating the establishment of the modern Japanese koseki family registration system, which was instituted in the 1870s.
