Yeo Iu (January 1912 – fl.28 April 2020) was a Chinese-born Singaporean centenarian.
Biography[]
Yeo Iu was born in China in January 1912. She came to Singapore with her brother when she was 13.
During her early days in Singapore, she worked in a kampong (village) farm. Fluent in Hokkien and Teochew, in addition to her native Hakka, she also learnt Malay during her time at the kampong.
Later life[]
At 101, Yeo took up residence at the Sree Narayana Mission in Yishun, North Region, Singapore.
On 20th January 2018, Cycling Without Age Singapore recognised Yeo as the oldest passenger globally to have ridden on their trishaws. Even at 106, she still did her daily morning exercises. She also still enjoyed dancing and entertaining the staff and other residents of the Mission with stories of the past.
In April 2020, aged 108, Yeo was still active and able to walk short distances. And prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, was able to go to church every week.
It is unknown when/if Yeo Iu had passed away. She was confirmed alive by the Sree Narayana Mission on 28 April 2020, aged 108 years, 88–119 days and was last mentioned by the Mission on 3 February 2022, but did not mention if she was still living.
