Yu Te-Hsin was born in Empire of Japan (now Taiwan) on 17 March 1915. He worked as teacher. In October 2015, he was visited by the deputy mayor of Taichung, Pan Wen-chung. Shortly before May 2020, he had a lumbar operation.

On 14 May 2020, at the age of 105 years, 58 days, Yu was recognised as the world's oldest person to paraglide tandem (male) by Guinness World Records. Near Puli, Nantou, he and his pilot took off at 686 metres (2,250.7 ft) in altitude and they paraglided tandem for nearly 14 minutes.

On 20 November 2023, following the death of 110-year-old Huang Decheng, Yu became the oldest known (documented) living man in Taiwan.
