Yuriko Tsurumaru [Japanese: 鶴丸百合子] (14 July 1913-7 Nov 2024) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Yuriko Tsurumaru was born in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan on 14 July 1913. She lost her husband when she was 36, and raised their two sons and two daughters while working as an elementary school teacher in Kobayashi, Miyazaki Prefecture.
In July 2023, Tsurumaru celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian. Although she has lost her hearing, but she still occasionally engages in joking conversations with staff members. She is able to feed herself and her favorite food is sweets. Her family commented, "It must have been hard raising four children, but I think it was a fun life where she was able to dance and do the things she loved. I hope she lives a longer life."
Following the death of 110-year-old Yone Kawabata on 19 August 2023, Tsurumaru became the oldest known living person in Miyazaki Prefecture.
Yuriko Tsurumaru died at a nursing home in Kobayashi, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan at the age of 111 years, 116 days.
