Zadok (Salah) Zilka [Hebrew: צדוק (סלאח) זילכה] (4 August 1913 – 21 May 2022) is an Iraqi-Israeli centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Israel at the time of his death.
Biography
Zadok Zilacha was born in Baghdad, Ottoman Empire (now Iraq) on 4 August 1913 (1911 according to the ID card, 1912 according to his death mention). He taught mathematics in Iraq.
Zilacha witnessed the Farhud in 1941. In 1950, he moved to Israel with his wife Simcha and their 3-year-old son Roni Zilka. They later had a daughter, who was born in Israel.
In September 2020, he celebrated the Yom Kippur, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, only his wife and his brother (who lives next to him) attended the ceremony. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated online.
One week before his death, Zilacha was hospitalized at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.
He became the oldest known living man in Israel, following the death of 109-year-old Simion Kenner on 15 May 2022. Just one day before his death, following the death of 109-year-old Rebecca Asher on 20 May 2022, he became the oldest known living person in Israel.
Zadok Zilacha died in Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv District, Israel on 21 May 2022, at the age of 108 years, 290 days.
