Zanetta Kastriades (née Bithimitri; 19 October 1881 – 2 May 1991) was a Greek-American centenarian who at the time of his death was the oldest known living person born in Greece.
Biography[]
Zanetta Kastriades was born as Zanetta Bithimitri in Kea, Regional unit of Kea-Kythnos, South Aegean, Greece on 19 October 1881 (claimed 27 March 1880). Her parents were Spyridon Antoinios Georgios Bithimitris and Amelia Porihy. She emigrated to New York, United States in September 1907. She married another Greek emigrant Emmanuel Kastriades on 1 January 1910. The couple had five children in total. She changed her name to Jane, which was often something that immigrants did to better assimilate in their new country.
She became a widow in 1959, after which she moved to Riverside, California, where she died on 2 May 1991 at the age of 109 years, 195 days. (claimed 111 years, 36 days).
