Zenepe Piranic (10 May 1910 – 5 July 2021) was a Montenegrin-born Albanian supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Albania and the Balkans. She is also the oldest known person ever in Albania and the oldest Montenegrin-born person ever.

Biography[]

Zenepe Piranic was born in Podgorica, Principality of Montenegro (present-day Montenegro) on 10 May 1910. According to Albanian media, she came to Shkoder from Montenegro in 1925 together with four other sisters and parents. She got engaged very young, at the age of 16 and stayed in Albania, while after the war her family returned to Montenegro. She survived two world wars, but also two world pandemics. She was born before the state in which she lived was formed. Her husband Hasan Piranic died in 2001, after which Zenepe was left alone, without children, they have lived together since 1926, a full 75 years. She always wanted to be educated, but again she was literate enough, but she wanted to be even more educated, but that was not possible then. The biggest pledge she carried in her heart was that she could never have a child.

In March 2021 at the age of 110, she received the Covid-19 vaccine, making her one of the oldest people to receive it. In same month, she was visited by the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama.

In the last three years of her life, she was taken care of by the organization for the care of the elderly from Shkodra "Organizata Alternative Pro", which and buried her.

Zenepe Piranic died in Shkoder, Shkoder County, Albania on 5 July 2021 at the age of 111 years, 56 days. She was buried on 6 July 2021 in Shkoder.
