Zhenya Broytman (21 August 1899 – 25 October 2010) was an Ukrainian-German supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Zhenya Broytman was born in Kharkiv (Ukrainian: Ха́рків), Russian Empire (present-day Ukraine) on 21 August 1899 in present-day Ukraine. She worked as a seamstress until 1970. She widowed in 1986. At the time she turned 100, Broytman emigrated to Germany to reunite with her son and his family who had emigrated in 1999. She first lived in Hilden and then moved to Eller. In 2008, Broytman came to the Georg Glock House, where her family visited her daily. Broytman did not learn German, so the nursing staff communicated with her in the sign language. She enjoyed sewing during which she would often sing. her relatives recall. Broytman became oldest living person in Germany after death of Alwine Werner in 2 March 2010. She died in Dusseldorf on 25 October 2010 at the age of 111 years, 65 days.
